A BROKEN LINK--by Allison Aloisio.
This metal sculpture by Larry Corriveau titled "Lost Hope" has been on display recently at Telstar High School by arrangement with the Mahoosuc Arts Council. Lost Hope A description accompanying the piece reads: 'The tragic loss of fellow Telstar student Sandy Berryment, Class of 1975, inspired the artist to create this piece long after his high school years." The piece, said Corriveau, represents his feelings about her death. Relationships, he said, are forged like links in a chain, and the broken link here illustrates the effect of a death on friends and family. The rough edges of the break represent the pain of such loss. The positioning on a tripod arrangement is symbolic of the fragile balance of life, he said. Corriveau has done metal sculpture for about 20 years, after working in the pulp and paper industry. This piece was done in 1996.
